“Blowing Smoke”                                Lori Mitchell

Lori’s Comments:  I had seen these types of images in magazines and on-line and wanted to give it a try.  My husband was the one who finally pushed me to take the first step in giving it a shot, and the result was image that anyone can look at and see something different.  I used a single hot shoe mounted flash and bounced it off of a white mat board so the light came in from the side and not head on.  Exposure details ISO 100, 45mm, f/5.6, 1/15 sec.
I joined the Caveman Camera Club in January 2013, and have learned more than I thought possible through classes, workshops and hands-on field trips.  The members of the club have a wealth of knowledge worth tapping into.  I am currently a student at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco along with my husband, and am working towards my Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in photography.   My husband Tony and my daughter Mia are my biggest supporters, and I couldn’t begin to think about pursuing this degree without them.

“The Old Digger” – Russ Williamson

Russ’ Comments:  The image is a light painting that I did on a field trip with the photo club in May, 2013 to Pottsville in Merlin.  The image is a composite of about 20 images that were combined in Photoshop.  The images were taken with my Nikon D5000 at ISO 200, F11, for 15 seconds each while I illuminated the tractor with a flashlight in different areas.

"Sun Flower"- Linda Bryant“Sunflower”   –    Linda Bryant

Linda’s Comments:  This was just a Sunflower that my husband and I planted in our garden this year. These plants grew up to about 15 ft tall. This was taken in August.  I was bored one night after dinner, was looking for something to take pics of and there they were. It was taken with my Canon 60D, ISO200, Ap f4.5, SS 1/50 at 70mm. I was having to stand under the plant and shoot straight up. I took the pic into Photoshop, did a few hand edits, flipped to vertical, then added a canvas type texture and a stroke around the outside.

"Brye Canyon Window"“Bryce Canyon Window”      Pam Arbogast

Pam’s comments:  I shot this image on the last mile of an 8 mile hike on the Fairyland Loop trail at Bryce Canyon National Park. We were returning via the Rim trail, watching developing smoke from a wildfire.  I was hot and tired, and ready to be back at camp. The view through this “window” brought me back to the present and I experimented with different angles. The tree hanging on to bare ground, and the light through the window to the distant formations attracted me.

10G1_TedDemetriades_CAVE_HarvestMoon“Harvest Moon”    Ted Demetriades

Ted’s Comments:  “I took this photo August 19th as the near-full moon rose over the mountains behind our house.  The ridge line trees made a great silhouette.  I used spot metering to keep detail in the bright moon, a 450 equivalent focal length, 400iso, and a tripod. I cropped the final image about 25% for a tighter composition.”

Dave’s Comments:  This image was taken last summer just after sunrise at the Abert Rim geologic formation north of Lakeview, Oregon.  It was taken with my Canon xsi camera with an 18 to 135mm lens set at 67mm.  It is a blend of three bracketed exposures, and then converted to black and white.  Basic exposure data is 1/60 sec at f11, with ISO set at 200.”

Copy 3154x3152“Dizzy Drink”           Dale George

Dale’s Comments:  This photo was taken in May this year on a Canon T2i with the standard 18-55 mm lens.  This photo started out as something completely different but evolved into something I was happy with. A neighbor’s 25 cent garage sale bud vase collection, a champagne glass and some vegetable dye and a bit of experimenting in Picasa. Post process was using first the focal B&W to give the outer vases a monochromatic look…then applied a focal zoom to give it a more surreal look.
