Here we learn of upcoming
club information and events
Field Trip
We have talked in the past about organizing an overnight or weekend field trip. Here is what
we’ve come up with. .A trip to the John Day Painted Hills near Mitchell, OR. The wild flowers
should be in bloom around the first weekend in May so that’s when we have tentatively scheduled
the trip. Sandy will check with the ranger station periodically to determine when the flowers will
be at their peak. There are a couple of hotels in the area for overnight stays.
Skyhook Motel - Mitchell, OR on highway 26. 541-462-3569
Historical Oregon Hotel – 104 E. Main St. Mitchell, OR 541-462-3027
Next CCC Board is at the James' residence on May 13 at 7pm
Next Third Wednesday Meeting "TWM" is at McDonald's May 21 at 7 pm
Ron James will discuss the art and techniques of "Photographing
Kids and Pets".
The plan is to leave GP on Friday, May 2 and spend as much time in the area as we can and be
there for early morning and late afternoon light. Some of us may stay through Saturday and
Sunday and return home Monday. Attractions in the area include not only the Painted Hills but
also Sheep Rock and Clarno. Sheep Rock sits 1100 feet above the John Day River and has hiking
trails, two picnic areas, a paleontology center and a museum. Clarno is more of a desert
environment and offers hiking trails and a picnic area. For photographers this appears to be a
“target rich” environment! The John Day Fossil Bed website is: w.nps.gov/joda/
Check it out. Updates will follow. Questions should be directed to either Nomeca Hartwell 474-3025 or Sandy James 479-5011
