 Sacred Lotus by Yutte Stensgaard
"I photographed this exquisite specimen of the Sacred Lotus (Nelumbo Nucifera) at Redwood Nursery. In southern Asia it symbolizes vitality and purity. Along with it’s ornamental value, this plant is cultivated for food and Chinese medicine. Virtually all parts of the plant can be eaten. Studies of the self-cleaning properties of the leaf surface have led to the development of a self-cleaning paint called Lotusan." Equipment: Canon 20D with an image stabilized 24-105mm 1:4 lens with ultrasonic motor. Shot at aperture priority at f16. Hand held.
